Stress in Tyvan generally falls on the last syllable of a word.

If the word ends in the Ablative or Directive 1 case, the stress actually falls on the penultimate syllable since those case-endings do not carry stress.

Another noted exception occurs when a verb in the past tense contains the negative suffix. The word will then have stress both on the syllable before the suffix and the last syllable after the suffix, if there are any.
